Alice’s best albums of the last ten years, no. 6.
Fact: Isis is my favorite metal band. I honestly cried when they broke up, that’s how many feels I happen to have over this band. I’m never going to forget the night I downloaded Panopticon and lay down in be with it, completely unsure as to what I was going to hear, and then I got washed away by a huge wall of ambient sound. Isis was the first band I’d ever really listened to that used a huge wall of sound, so I was completely blown away, it was kind of like ‘whoa, someone’s doing that sound!’ I’d actually list Panopticon as my favorite Isis album, but I tend to think of that album as one piece of music, and it’d be much harder for me to talk about. Wavering Radiant is probably as immediately approachable as Isis gets, and each of the songs stand out on their own. My two personal favorites of the album are Stone To Wake a Serpent, and Threshold and Transformation. I honestly could talk about Isis for hours I think. What I love about Isis is that their music is not only heavy, but feels emotionally heavy too, like Neurosis, but also happens to be extremely beautiful and intricate and thought out. They’r the heaviest band to use the prettiest melodies.
